Papers of the London Branch of the Anti Apartheid Movement. Although the collection relates specifically to the local and regional groups for the London area, the papers are equally concerned with the wider business of the movement, at both the national and international levels. Records of the Annual General Meetings, the National Committee and the Executive Committee are held as well as material from the London Committee and papers of local anti apartheid groups. The papers of David Kenvyn, chairperson of the London Committee and secretary of Redbridge Apartheid Group, reflect the regional and local activities of the movement, while papers from related organisations illustrate the extent to which the movement worked in partnership with other bodies.

Papers, 1972-1981 (some undated), on the Philippines, including typescripts, correspondence, maps, legal documents, press cuttings and other published material, some of the material produced by the Catholic Church, dealing with affairs in the Philippines, including the work of the Panamin government agency, the Chico River Basin Project (Northern Luzon) to dam the Chico River and submerge tribal villages, attempts to 'modernise' and convert minority ethnic groups to Christianity, including alleged abuses of human rights, and the political situation, including the policies of Ferdinand Marcos.

Typescript papers, 1930-1931, on the court case Rex v C Diedericks and others, concerning alleged unrest between Europeans and coloured people and a supposed meeting by the Plaatjes in the coloured township of Bulawayo, Swellendam, South Africa, including police witness statements, and correspondence between the police and the magistrate relating to alleged inconsistencies between the statements.

Papers, c1938-1948, of Barbara Whittingham-Jones, comprising articles written by her, in addition to her notes and background material, radio broadcast scripts and photographs relating primarily to political events in Malaysia and Indonesia. Articles discuss issues such as the Malay Revolt in Patani, 1945-1948; Malay nationalism; reports on the French colonisation of Siam; the fight for independence in Indonesia, 1945-; the Malino Conference, 1946; political development in South Celebes; the Dutch East India Co.; and Sarawak and its cession to Britain as a Crown Colony, 1946. Photographs include old and post-war Batavia; Japanese war-prisoners in Indonesia; the Malino Conference, 1946; Prime Minister Sutan Sjahrir of Indonesia; Dr. H. J. This collection contains outgoing correspondence, diaries, reports, and speeches made by Sir Peter Newsam as the Education Officer of the ILEA. The material makes special reference to the development of policies in the ILEA aimed at improving education provision for ethnic minorities, reponses to the Brixton riots, and the effects of falling school rolls and secondary school reorganisations in inner London.

The records also include policy files kept by Sir Ashley Bramall, Leader of the ILEA, on teachers' pay and the William Tyndale School Inquiry.
